ELA 9 - After listening to the short play, "The Fighting Days", students created two short articles dealing with the topic of women's rights. They are also reading/responding to their Holocaust books.
HLTH 9 - We started the movie "Philadelphia" today, dealing with the topic of Aids and discrimination.
SOC 9 - After finishing up our section on Inca Government, we started reading up on Inca Religion.
PAA 9 - Projects are due TOMORROW!!!!
ELA 20 and CND 30 - Finals are now finished! Wahoo!

Thursday, Jan 21, Day 6
As semester one winds down a lot has been happening:
ELA 9 - We have had some awesome discussions about human rights. Students took part in learning about a human rights issue (death penalty, child slavery, Rwandan Genocide) and after presenting it to the class conducted a discussion based on questions they came up with. Very thoughtful discussions. We are still working on reading our Holocaust novels as well.
HLTH 9 - Last class students were part of a 'survey' that allowed them to think about their own prejudices and feelings towards AIDS/HIV and those who have the infection. We are also reading a novel called "Chanda's Secrets" which is about a young girl from Africa dealing with AIDS in her family.
SOC 9 - We worked on a chart and questions based on Inca government, army, and economy. We will be correcting the questions next day, Tuesday the 26th.
PAA 9 - We have been working like mad on our sewing projects. Only one more class to finish up!
PAA 8 - Our second last class involved as making a good old "Country Breakfast" - very delicious. Our last class tomorrow is a clean up and work period.
ELA 20 - We have been finishing up our resumes and cover letters, as well as our radio scrips which are due on Friday the 22nd. The final is on Tuesday the 26th at 1:00.
CND 30 - Students have been finishing up their Constitution timelines which are due on Friday the 22nd, and the dialectics due Wed. the 27. The final is also on Wed. at 1:00

ELA 9 - We started reading our Holocaust novels today.
PAA 8 - We did an assignment on the Canadian Food Guide and students have a homework assignment to do that has them record what they eat in a single day. This will be due next day 6.

ELA 9 - We watched part three of Witness: Voices of the Holocaust and had some great discussion surrounding the video.
PAA 8 - We cooked up some French Toast today! Delicious!
SOC 9 - After going through the various people involved in the Inca empire we read up on family life and growing up in the Incan Empire.
ELA 20 - After hearing the rest of the valedictorian speeches, we had a work period to organize our panel discussions due on Friday as well our research essays.
CND 30 - We worked on our timeline assignment today. Constitution questions are also due on Friday.

Tuesday, January 12, Day 5
ELA 9 - After our "Eagle of the Month" assembly we had a chance to look through the various Holocaust books Mrs. Katchin pulled from our resource center shelves. After perusing the book, and checking out some reviews, students picked their top five books they would be interested in reading for our Independent Novel Study assignment.
PAA 9 - Students worked away at their hand sewing and design projects. Only a couple more classes to finish up!!!!
ELA 20 - Students did a GREAT job today of presenting their valedictorian speeches!!! We will hear the rest of them tomorrow. Reminder that the panel discussions will be presented on Friday. Also, a final draft of the research essay is due on Friday. Novels need to be finished by Monday.

Monday, January 11, Day 4
ELA 9 - We watched part two of the "Witness" documentary on the Holocaust today.
HLTH 9 - Students had time to work on their AIDS and discrimination questions which are due on Friday the 18th.
SOC 9 - We reviewed the creation story of the Incas and then started reading up on the many levels of people involved in the Empire. Both the creations posters and the handout are due on Wednesday the 13th.
ELA 20 - Students had the hour to work on their valedictorian speeches which are due TOMORROW!!! Also this week the panel discussion and final drafts of the research essays will be due.

ELA 9 - Today we looked up some vocabulary relating to the Holocaust. We started watching "Witnesses" a documentary about the Holocaust. We finished part one and have three more to watch. We also had a response to do along with the video.
HLTH 9 - We started our new unit today: "HIV/AIDS". After discussion of the background knowledge on the topic, we worked on a handout that discusses discrimination and the stigma surrounding people with HIV/AIDS.
SOC 9 - After watching a short 'creation story' video on the Incas, students created a visual to represent the story. There will be more time to work on these next class.
ELA 20 - This period was used to work on our valedictorian speeches, panel discussion, and reading our novels.

Wednesday, Jan. 6, Day 1
ELA 9 - Today we discussed the issue of standing up for others. We talked about bullying, what people can do to stand up for others and themselves, and why it is important to do so. We then started making connections to standing up for others and the Holocaust. We will be watching an eye-opening documentary which includes many stories of survivors of Holocaust survivors.
PAA 8 - Pancakes and crepes were made today! Delicious!!!
ELA 20 - We started doing our Valedictorian speeches today. We analyzed other speeches from former Valedictorians, and then came up with some of the common characteristics of the speeches, as well as ways to make them stand out or be personalized. We also had time to read our novels which will be due in a couple weeks time.
SOC 30 - We corrected our questions on Canadian government and the constitution. We also started looking at the Confederation.

Happy New Year!!!
Welcome Back!!!!
ELA 9 - We started a new unit called "Doing the Right Thing". So far we have had discussions about morals, and read a short story called "The Taste of Melon". Students worked on a response to the story, which is due on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
PAA 9 - We have been working hard on our hand sewing and design projects. Only four more classes to work on them - they are due Jan. 20th.
PAA 8 - Students made some delicious muffins and bannock in class! Next and final unit: Breakfast.
SOC 9 - We started a new unit on the Incan Empire today. We did some map labeling, and found out some ways in which archaeologists and historians know about the Incas today. EVERYONE learned something new today!!!
ELA 20 - We worked on panel discussions today.
CND 30 - We did a quick assignment on the Canadian government to bring everyone up to speed. This is due tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 6th.
