Well an entire month is nearly finished! It's been a busy September and here's the scoop on the action happening in my classes!!!
ELA 9 - Students have been working madly on a couple major projects. The first one is due tomorrow!!!!! This is a family tree. The other project is a family tribute project. Students have done a great job of each of these. Also, the first reader response assignment was done last week.

HLTH 9 - We are working on the 12 determinants of health, and the 5 ways to promote health.
PAA 9 - Sewing machine terminology and threading the machines/bobbins is keeping us busy.
PAA 8 - First unit is done! Test was done this week.

Five Days In...
I hope everyone is back into swing of things after the first five days of school!!! This year our school schedule has changed slightly with our classes being 54 minutes each and an RTI (Response to Intervention) time being incorporated into the school day between period 4 and 5. This is an AWESOME chance for students to catch up on homework, get extra assistance, enrichment, or to work on SRC and other school activities.
We have jumped right into all my classes with activities, great discussion, and even some assignments. Here's a cap of the last five days:
ELA 9 - We are starting our "In Search of Self" unit. After discussion about identity, and what makes each of us unique, we wrote a short poem titled"I Am". The typed rough draft of this poem is due on FRIDAY, Sept. 9.,
HLTH 9 - We have only had one class of health where we had some good discussion about the many ways a person can be health. We are also working on taking notes on the 12 Determinant of Health.
SOC 9 - The theme of grade nine Social Studies is titled "Roots of Society". This is my favorite course as it spends time learning about ancient civilizations around the world, as well as First Nations cultures of Canada. We started the first introductory unit with learning about Society and Worldview... we are starting our first assignment where students make a concept map based on bits and pieces of their worldview.
PAA 9 - Sewing - Half of the grade nines are taking sewing, where they have already had one assignment on small sewing tools, learned how to thread a needle and tie a know, and started the running hand stitch. Students have been given a list of supplies they will need for this class.
PAA 8 - Cooking - Half of the grade 8s are starting the year with kitchen and food safety.
ELA 20 - Students have already been busy with doing a reader response, writing a poem, and learning about figures of speech - all connected to our theme of Childhood. The responses were due on Tuesday, and a rough draft of the poem is due on Friday the 8th. They also have a figure of speech quiz on Friday the 8th.
Canadian Studies 30 - We started out the year with a quick quiz on Canadian trivia. Our first unit, Change, has included a response (was due Wed) and now we are starting the dialectic process.
