Tuesday, Sept 30, Day 5

PAA 8 - After working on a kitchen utensil handout the class helped in cleaning and organizing the kitchen in preparation for cooking. Thanks for the help!

HLTH 9 - Magazine Campaign Kick Off!!!!

ELA 7 - We went through some of our noun sheets that were for homework. We also started looking at pronouns. Two assignments were given on pronouns with more time being used to work on those during the week.

CND 30 - A unit one test review was given. We worked on our final projects for unit one.

Monday, Sept. 30, Day 4

PAA 9 - We started class with a test on the information we have done so far. After the test we started looking at the parts to the sewing machines. Students needed to locate the parts. They will soon have a test to see how well they know their sewing machines. We are also ordering our hand sewing products this week.

SOC 9 - We started where we left off in our last class looking at Bushfield West and the steps taken in archeology. We did a write up on the inferences and questions that were found at Bushfield. Then we did an activity where the students 'became' archaeologists. This was a mystery locker activity where the kids were given an bag will several articles in it. From there they had to use the steps in archeology to figure out what kind of students would own that locker.

ELA 7 - We started with spelling today! Because it was a Monday and we didn't have class on Friday to remind us of the spelling test, we had a bit of time to work on studying for the test. After the test we worked on the first draft of our 'Dear Terry' letter. REMINDER THAT TOMORROW WE WILL GO THROUGH THE NOUN HANDOUTS FROM LAST DAY FIVE. THEY MUST BE DONE FOR HOMEWORK IF NOT DONE.

CND 30 - We finished looking at the viewpoints dealing with Louis Riel and the FLQ. Then we went to the lab to work on our final project.

SOC 10 - We studied all class for our test. TEST IS TOMORROW, TUESDAY 30TH!!!!

Friday, September 26, Day 3

PAA 8 - We corrected our unit one tests. Then we went through the kitchen scavenger hunt from last class. We started looking at kitchen utensils and received a worksheet that we will do next class.

HLTH 9 - Terry Fox Run

ELA 7 - Terry Fox Run. REMINDER - SPELLING TEST ON MONDAY

CND 30 - We went through the Quiet Revolution questions and did some notes on people involved in it. We also went to the computer lab to get a brief overview of our final project.

SOC 10 - We went through our test review. Then we watched some senior volley ball. TEST IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, SEPT 30.

Thursday, Sept 25, Day 2

SOC 9 - We started out with a review quiz on cyclical and linear time and after going through the quiz we reviewed the information from last day. We went through the text questions due for today and then discussed the topic of archeology as a means of understanding history. We looked at the three steps of archeology and read a case study about Bushfield West.

ELA 7 - Class started with us organizing our writing portfolios. We also started on our second writing assignment of the year: The Unsent Letter. This is a letter each student will write to Terry Fox, telling him what they wish they could say if he was still alive. It is a chance to practice writing a friendly letter, and a chance to share our feelings about a great Canadian hero.

CND 30 - We read a bit more on the Quiet Revolution and then did some questions on the historical event. The students also received their final project outline for unit one. We are nearly finished the unit (test soon approaching) and will work on the final project tomorrow and next week. REMINDER: DIALECTIC ESSAYS ARE DUE TOMORROW, FRIDAY 26TH.

SOC 10 -A unit review class! THE REVIEW SHEET IS DUE FOR TOMORROW'S CLASS as we will be going through it as a means of studying. THE TEST FOR UNIT ONE IN ON TUESDAY, SEPT, 30. Also, the MINORITY POSTER IS ALSO DUE TOMORROW!

Wednesday, Sept. 24, Day 1

Ooops better later than never? I apologize for the late posting....

PAA 9 - We did some 'housekeeping' today. We worked on finishing up stitches we weren't done, organizing our portfolios, and studying for our quiz. UNIT ONE QUIZ IS ON MONDAY, SEPT 29TH.

ELA 7 - We had a double English class today. We read chapter five of 'Run' and worked on reader response for chapters four and five. THEY ARE DUE FOR NEXT CLASS. We also practiced our spelling words a bit by rewriting them in to sentences that we connected into a story. It was a fun activity and we had some very creative stories!

CND 30- Today we corrected our Louis Riel Questions. After this we looked at the Quiet Revolution, the FLQ and the October Crisis. We read some information and also watched a CBC archives video that explained these historical Canadian events. We are nearing the end of our first unit!

SOC 10 - We finished up our first unit today! We went through the assignment from yesterday and then did some notes and discussions on government. A unit one test review was handed out. We will work on this tomorrow and the TEST IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, SEPT, 30.

Tuesday, Sept, 23, Day 6

SOC 9 - This morning we started out by handing in our family history assignment. It looks like a lot of time was spent on these assignments! Job well done! We continued talking about time and looked at how we use time to look back at history. We finished class by doing an assignment on history and time from our text books. THIS IS DUE ON THURSDAY, SEPT 25TH.

ELA 7 - Today we started our spelling program! WE WILL ALWAYS GET NEW SPELLING WORDS ON DAY 6, AND WILL DO THE SPELLING TEST ON DAY 4. The students have come up with words in their own reading that they believe would be good spelling words. We discussed the meanings of the words (listed in their vocab folders) and will spend time looking at those words through the week. We also went through chapters two and three from our reader response and read chapter four of 'Run'.

CND 30 - We looked at our first draft dialectic assignments and had a chance to go to the lab to fix them up in order to hand in the final copy. DIALECTICS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY 26TH. Some students also had time to work on the Louis Riel Questions. THESE QUESTIONS ARE DUE TOMORROW, THE 24TH.

SOC 10 - We started class by doing a quick assignment on Democracy and Canadians. This had to be finished in order to go to the lab to work on the minority poster assignment. This was our last class to work on these and THE MINORITY POSTERS ARE DUE FRIDAY, SEPT 26TH.

Monday, Sept 22, Day 5

PAA 8 - Class started with our unit one quiz on safety. After the test was finished we did a kitchen scavenger hunt locating all the kitchen tools we have in our PAA room.

HLTH 9 - In partners we created a goal statement that was measurable, specific, and possible. From there we worked on creating an action plan to achieve the goal statement. We won't actually follow these through but are creating them as a chance to practice making action plans.

ELA 7 - After silent reading we studied the 'noun'. Starting today, every day five we are going to do a mini lesson on different aspects of language. We worked on a couple worksheet that we will go through next day five. Some class time will be used to finish those up tomorrow if need be. Also, CHAPTER 2 & 3 READER RESPONSE QUESTIONS FOR 'RUN' ARE DUE TOMORROW (TUESDAY, 23)

CND 30 - We started looking at Louis Riel and the Rebellions he took part. We watched several video clips from the CBC Archives, and then started working on some questions. Students will have more time to work on these tomorrow.

SOC 10 - This was the last full class to work on our minority project. Class time was used well today, and a bit more class time will be used tomorrow to finish up this project.

Friday, September 19th, Day 4

PAA 9 - This morning we worked on the hardest hand stitch we will cover this unit: the backstitch. After several questions, a couple knots, and a lot of patience, we all pretty much got this stitch mastered.

SOC 9 - We discussed our first unit topic: Time. We looked at the definition of time, found out ways we measure time, and why it is important. We looked at the two types of time: cyclical and linear. REMINDER THAT THE FAMILY HISTORY ASSIGNMENT IS DUE NEXT CLASS, TUESDAY, SEPT. 23!

ELA 7 - We discussed chapter one questions from 'Run' and then read chapters two and three. We worked on reader response questions to these chapters. Chapter two is DUE FOR MONDAY, SEPT, 22.

CND 30 - We corrected the questions for English-French relations in Canada. We also looked at the viewpoints dealing with First Nations-European contact, and French-English relations.

SOC 10 - All class was used to work on our minority group assignment. Monday's class will allow students to take the info they researched and create their posters.

Thursday, Sept 18, Day 3

PAA 8 - We had time to work on our safety posters (most are done but if not they need to be done for next class - MONDAY, SEPT 22). We also had time to study for our safety unit test which will be on MONDAY, SEPT 22 also.

HLTH 9 - This class was used to finish up our newspaper article assignment on the determinants of health and ways to promote health. We also created visuals to help us remember the nine determinants and health promotion strategies. Finally, we started taking notes on goal statements.

ELA 7 - We read chapter one of 'Run' and did chapter questions.

CND 30 - We worked on English-French relationship questions. THESE ARE DUE TOMORROW, SEPT 19TH.

SOC 10 - We discussed our role play from the last two classes looking specifically at minorities and democracy. We started our next assignment which is to be done in partners. This assignment allows us to look at minorities in Canada and find ways in which they are given a 'voice' in our society.

Wednesday, Sept 17th, Day 2

SOC 9 - This was our last class to work on our family history assignment. There will be NO MORE time to work on these projects in class, so if students are not done they will be for homework. THEY ARE DUE TUESDAY, SEPT. 23.

ELA 7 - We looked at our novel "Run", and had a chance to preview the book a bit. We discussed the cover picture, the information on the back, information about the author, and the foreword. We will start reading chapter one tomorrow. For the last fifteen minutes of class we were able to go to the lab to finish up our online conversation assignment. All conversations were handed in today! :)

CND 30 - We corrected the questions on First Nations-European contact. We then started looking at the relationship between the British and French in Canada. We worked on questions pertaining to the topic. More time will be given tomorrow to finish these.

SOC 10 - We continued today with our Nigerian Government role play. We will discuss the findings of the role play in tomorrow's class.

Tuesday, Setpember 16th, Day 1

PAA 9 - We corrected our sewing equipment questions at the beginning of class. We then did a crash course on how to use the iron and ironing board. We had a chance to iron some scrap material. Then we worked on our oversewing stitch. Make sure to get ALL your SEWING EQUIPMENT ASAP!

ELA 7 - We continued where we left off yesterday looking at radio and video clips on the CBC archives of Terry Fox. Our novel study books were also handed out.

CND 30 - We looked at the similarities and differences between Aboriginal and British worldview. The grade twelves then worked on a question sheet based on European-Aboriginal contact. THIS IS DUE TOMORROW (WED 17TH)

SOC 10 - Today we looked at the role of democracy by doing a role play on the Nigerian government and the conflicts it had with democracy. The students were put into separate political parties or cultures, and looked at various issues, making opinions on the topics based on their cultural group. They will meet tomorrow as the 'Nigerian government' to discuss those issues.

Monday! September 15th, Day 6

SOC 9 - Today we worked on our family history assignment. STUDENTS NEED TO MAKE SURE TO HAVE THEIR INFORMATION TOGETHER as this is the last week to work on the project. Students need to make good use of their time in class.

ELA 7 - We started looking at information on Terry Fox. We will soon begin our novel study, 'Run', which deals with a fictional boy named Winston, and his encounter with the Canadian hero. We did a KWL chart (Know, Want to Know, Learned) to begin our discussions. We also started looking at the CBC Archives on the Internet to see the radio and video news clips about Terry Fox.

CND 30 - Our dialectics were due today. We also started looking at the dialectics that make up Canadian history. Our first topic is First Nations and European contact. In small groups we looked at the First Nations vs. European worldviews. These will be further discussed tomorrow.

SOC 10 - We worked in the computer lab to finish up our informational brochure on power and decision making in the Canadian Government. THE BROCHURE IS DUE TOMORROW (TUESDAY, 16TH).

Friday! Setember 12, Day 5

PAA 8 - We worked on our safety posters all class. Will have a bit more time to finish up next class.

HLTH 9 - Did an activity on the five way to promote health action. Corrected it in class. We also started a newspaper assignment (in partners) that involves locating two health related articles and deciding which determinant and health promotion strategy it deals with. More class time will be given to finish up next class.

ELA 7 - Finished up our personal narratives and then worked in partners on our online conversation assignment.

CND 30 - Last class period to work on dialectics. THEY ARE DUE ON MONDAY, SEPT. 15.

SOC 10 - no class due to assembly and chuckwagon races.

Wednesday, September 10, Day 3

PAA 8 - This morning we reviewed safety with a worksheet. Then we started work on our safety posters. We will have a chance to finish these on Friday's class.

HLTH 9 - We started class (as usual) with our decision making quiz. Almost half the class got 100% on the quiz. We will do this quiz at the beginning of every single Health class until we ALL get 100%. We corrected our determinant of health activity. Then we looked at the five ways to promote health (notes). We were given an assignment to distinguish the difference between those five ways. We will have a bit more time to work on this next class.

ELA 7 - We discussed our response questions to "Some Days You're the Puppy". Then we shared information about our online invented personalities. These were quite creative and funny! We also discussed our next assignment, Online Conversations. We will start this tomorrow.

CND 30 - Worked on our dialectics all class. THE DIALECTICS WILL BE DUE MONDAY the 15th.

SOC 10 - We had a quiz/competition to review the terms we learned about government and decision making. The winning team consisted of Kelsey, Delanie, and Brittni who won a fabulous prize!
Then our groups started working on their brochure assignment. They are each assigned two/three questions about power and decision making in the Canadian Government. We don't have class now until Monday (due to early dismissal and chuckwagon races). They will have more time on Monday to finish the brochure. IT IS DUE ON TUESDAY 16.

Tuesday, September 9, Day 2

SOC 9 - Personal timelines were due today. We also began work on our family histories. For our next class, THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE ALL/MOST OF THEIR INFORMATION TO DO A FAMILY TREE. Some students will need to bring history books, or information from parents/grandparents, etc.

ELA 7 - Students worked on their writing projects all class in the lab. Many students have handed in a final draft that is ready to be marked. Others will need to still finish their final draft in an upcoming class. All students had a chance to work on an "Online Name" assignment. This is DUE FOR TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, SEPT 10th.

CND 30 - We had a chance to share our Tyrell Dueck dialectic examples. We are now working on our own personal choice dialectic. Students are choosing their own topics to create a dialect essay for.

SOC 10 - We finished reading through a handout on the Canadian government. We also watched a video on democracy. This will prepare us for the assignment we will begin tomorrow.

Monday, September 8, Day 1

PAA 9 - Finished up our portfolios. Worked on a small equipment assignment. This is DUE THURS. SEPT 11.

ELA 7 - Did reader response questions for "Some Days You're the Puppy". These are DUE for tomorrow, SEPT 9. We also had a chance to go to the lab to work on typing up a draft of our personal narrative. Those who didn't get quite finished will have more time to work on it tomorrow.

CND 30 - We worked on our practice dialectics of Tyrell Dueck. We will go through these tomorrow. We also looked at our first dialect essay assignment.

SOC 10 - Corrected our Constitution questions. We started looking at government a bit more in depth. We are reading a handout that discusses the many aspects of government in Canada.

Friday at last.... September 5, Day 6

SOC 9 - This class was a used as a period to work on our personal time lines. There will be NO MORE CLASS TIME to work on these projects and they are due next class, TUESDAY, SEPT 9. Students should also start gathering information for their next assignment, which is looking at family history. Any kind of family history they have should be gathered for next class as well.

ELA 7 - We listened to the short story "Some Days You're the Puppy". We discussed the story a bit and went through the reader response questions that they will do on Monday. DUE ON MONDAY, SEPT 8 IS THE FIRST DRAFT OF THEIR PERSONAL NARRATIVE.

CND 30 - We practised doing moral tests. Then we looked at the situation of Tyrell Dueck, discussed the two view points considered in the case. We started working on setting up a dialectic essay in small groups/partners. These did not get finished, and will have more time to work on them on Monday's class.

SOC 10 - We looked at the topic of power and the control of it by reading information on the Canadian Constitution. We read through a handout and did some questions. QUESTIONS ARE DUE ON MONDAY, SEPT 8.

Thursday, September 4, Day 5

PAA 8 - Took notes and had discussions on food poisoning, moldy food, rotten food, how to store food and other such topics. We ended class with an experiment on proper hand washing.

HLTH 9 - Finished our notes on the determinants of health. We did a personal response on the determinants which is DUE SEPT 10 (Wednesday). We started an assignment on the determinants. It is also DUE SEPT 10 (Wednesday).

ELA 7 - Students worked on their first draft of their writing assignments they started last class. If they did not get finished this class then it is to be done for MONDAY, SEPT 8. They will have a bit of time tomorrow to finish it, but if not done then it needs to be taken home for homework. We also started looking at the short story "Some Days You're the Puppy".

CND 30 - We continued looking at the dialectic process. We looked specifically at moral tests, a skill needed for the dialectic.

SOC 10 - For the first half of class we discussed power and its connection to social organizations. We looked at examples of power imbalances. The last half of class we went to the lab to work on our interdependence vs independence response. This is DUE TOMORROW, FRIDAY 5th.

Wednesday, September 3, Day 4

PAA9 - Sewing!!! This morning we started out the class with looking at the course outline. We also discussed the materials that are needed for sewing class:
* VARIOUS SIZED NEEDLES
* THREAD (BLACK AND WHITE)
* BOBBINS (PLASTIC)
* PINS
* WHITE MARKING PENCIL OR CHALK
* SCISSORS
* SEAM RIPPER
Students began the construction of their portfolios which are used to store all the work done throughout the semester.

SOC 9 - Began the personal timeline assignment. Spent the hour working on it and will get more time on Friday's class to finish. DUE TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 9.

ELA 7 - Worked on personal narrative writing assignment.

CND 30 - Looked at the dialectic process and a case study on a dialectic topic. Had some great discussions.

SOC 10 - Finished up interdependence vs. independence activity. Began response assignment. Will have some time to work on it. DUE FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5.

Tuesday, September 2, Day 3

PAA 8 - Students looked at course outline and discussed their cooking histories. We started our first unit which is safety.

HLTH 9 - Looked at course outline. We reviewed the decision making process, which is our first unit. We started discussing all the ways a person can be healthy and looked at some of the Determinants of Health.

ELA 7 - We discussed our unit questions that were to be responded to for today. We also made a web that listed the many areas in our life where we need to have courage. This is a prewriting activity for the writing assignment we will start tomorrow.

CND 30 - Had a chance to work on the Change assignment assigned on Friday. It is due WEDNESDAY, SEPT 3.

SOC 10 - We reviewed social organizations and contracts. We compared our class contract to that of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We started looking at the concept of Interdependence.

Two Days In...

Only two days in and we have already started a few activities and assignments:

ELA 7 - Our first couple days have mostly been organizing. We had a chance to go to the library to get books for silent reading. We started brainstorming for our first unit "Finding the Courage"

SOC 9 - We started our first unit "Time". We also started our first assignment which is a personal timeline. On Wednesday (3rd) students are to have at least 15-20 important points from their life to start putting on the timeline.

SOC 10 - Began our first unit "Political Decision Making" which included an introduction to Social Organizations and Social Contracts.

SOC 30 - Looking at our first unit "Change" we have reviewed the four stages to change and have discussed worldview and social contracts. We started our first assignment on Change.

A welcome back to all students, staff, and parents! Summer is over and classes are up and running. As a means of communication for both parents and students, this 'blog' has been started. This will give me a chance to post all the comings and going that are happening in my classes through out the year. This include any of the projects, assignments, and activities that are happening. Students and parents can check out this webpage to see when deadlines are, to find out what happened in classes that might have been missed, and to contact me through email if more information is needed.
