This morning the Grade Nine class travelled to Yorkton Regional High School to see Gruen Von Behren speak about the consequences of using chewing tobacco. The presentation was very moving as Gruen talked about having oral cancer at 17, having 34 surgeries to deal with the cancer (including reconstructive surgeries to replace his disintegrated jaw bone with a bone from his leg) and the pain he and his mother went through dealing with cancer. His message was not only informative, but uplifting; he shared his beliefs about appreciating life and being thankful for what we have, especially being thankful for our parents. He reminded students that no matter how bad off you are in life, there is always someone out there who is worse.
ELA - Mrs. Raine was in to discuss the Willow Book Awards. We also had our spelling test and went to the lab to work on Remembrance Day writing.
CND 30 - We had a percussion performance, named SWARM, at LHS for period 4. They were an interesting group who create their own percussion instruments from recycled materials.
SOC 30 - We worked on our First Nations Economics web quest this period.
